Safety of Non-Municipal Drinking Water
Nearly 3 million Ontario residents, mostly in rural, semi-rural or remote communities, get their water from non-municipal drinking-water supplies. The Walkerton tragedy in 2000 showed that the consequences of drinking unsafe water can be deadly. Our audit looked at whether the Ministries of Health and the Environment, Conservation and Parks, in conjunction with the agencies they oversee, have effective processes and systems in place to support Ontarians’ reliable access to safe drinking water.
